Dog collars that build good interaction with your dog
dog shock collars, quality matters!
The dog shock collar with remote for medium dogs are definitely a product where quality is absolutely important. High quality e-collars like the ones used by me and most of my colleagues have multiple levels, which means that you can dial in the exact level needed to communicate with your dog at any given moment. On the other hand, low quality, cheap e-collars have very few levels. On a high quality e-collar this is a very small shift, but on a low quality e-collar, dialling out from 3 to 4 is a jump - and can be very worrying for the dog. Some people think that cheap e-collars should be called "shock collars" because they are so shocking for dogs and I don't disagree. Quality is important.
Let's explain what an e-collar feels like. For most people, their only reference point for "electric shock" is something shocking and painful - messing with wires, accidental bumps, touching an electric fence for livestock, etc. - they think it's some kind of electronic collar. -They think it's something like an electric collar. However, this is not the reality of e-collars! The high quality dog training collar uses the same technology as the TENS unit; it is a muscle stimulator. At low levels it's a strange tapping sensation that feels a bit like a tap tap tap on the shoulder. The reason this is a great way to communicate with your dog is because it is a tactile experience (as opposed to the auditory experience of a verbal command). Tactile communication is more natural to your dog and can be communicated to your dog at a time when they may be ignoring your verbal commands. If you've ever called your dog and he's completely scared you off, you'll appreciate the ability of the e-collar to hold his attention! The wonderful thing about dog shock collar is that you can communicate in any scenario. Now, this doesn't mean that the dog has some kind of intuitive understanding of the e-collar - you still need to teach them what to do when they feel this, and this is where the training comes in handy. The training collar for dogs must be combined with thorough, quality dog training for this communication to be meaningful to your dog.
Now, at a higher level, e-collars can certainly be uncomfortable, but that's not a bad thing. In fact, higher level e-collars are used to stop your dog from doing things he shouldn't be doing. Running into traffic? Walking towards wildlife? Walking towards a cliff? To an unfriendly dog? The upper level of the e-collar stops your dog in his tracks, without the need for a leash. How many other training tools do you know of that can do this? You might say "If a dog is fully trained, then he should respond to your verbal commands and you shouldn't need any other tools!" Ah, but dogs aren't robots, are they? Even well-trained dogs can make mistakes, get distracted and caught up in the moment, or make poor choices (perhaps a deer in the woods seems worthwhile). A dog training collar for dogs gives you a way to communicate with your dog in those moments, and I don't care if your dog is well-trained, there will be those moments! It's no exaggeration to say that an e-collar can save your dog's life.
So, why should I use a dog training collar with remote? Because a quality e-collar combined with proper e-collar training provides a form of communication that is not uncomfortable or worrying in itself, but communicates to my dog whatever is going on around us - and it does all this without any harm to the dog. It is a complete and utter game changer.
If you have a dog shock collar with remote dog, I encourage you to use your e-collar with pride! There will always be people who judge our decisions and don't want to consider new information, but don't let them stop you from doing what you know is best for your dog.
