Small biodegradable rubbish bags can carry a lot of weight

Although the world has recently started to ban the sale of plastic shopping bags, there is another big plastic bag that is not so environmentally friendly: the rubbish bag. Stopping the use of trash bags is not easy. Where are you going to put all your waste We hate to be a downer, but because of the way landfills are designed, nothing biodegrades quickly. There is a severe lack of sunlight, oxygen and moisture, the three key ingredients for decomposition.

Bags without any compostable or biodegradable labels break down faster in landfills than standard plastic rubbish bags. Both plastic rubbish bags and 'biodegradable' rubbish bags can take hundreds of years to decompose. The terms biodegradable and compostable may sound the same, but there are differences.

Biodegradable and compostable 4 gallon trash bag are usually made from bioplastics - plant starches that are processed to make biodegradable plastic. There is a simple way of looking at it: all compostable plastic is biodegradable, but biodegradable plastic is not necessarily compostable. If you want to compost your waste, it is necessary to buy compostable bags - biodegradable ones do not reduce it. Compostable bags are designed to break down into compost under certain conditions. For a bag to be commercially labelled 'compostable', it must meet federal guidelines for decomposition in an industrial composting facility. Basically, don't try to compost at home unless a bag is labelled as suitable for home composting. If you want to compost your waste at home, dumping the bags into the compost bin is the safest option.

As mentioned above, biodegradable bags are not necessarily compostable. Most biodegradable bags are made from plastic derived from corn-based materials. However, there is a problem with biodegradable bags: they simply break down into smaller and smaller pieces. They cannot be composted and therefore end up in landfill, where they will not decompose in any reasonable amount of time.

Compostable and biodegradable bags are not recyclable
Do not put compostable or biodegradable bags in the recycling bin. They cannot be recycled and this will only create a mess at the recycling plant.

How to use compostable black trash bags
