 Does a grout pen really work? I wanted to upgrade our shower, clean and restore the surface and make the walls of the shower look cleaner and tidier.

White grout will not stay white. After two years of dirty white grout, I wanted something fresh. Cleaning with a grout pen is very effective for detail restoration.

After cleaning the shower, make sure you allow time for all grout to dry 100%. If the grout is wet, you do not want to apply grout stains. The grout pen Company does not recommend using this grout pen white if your grout is sealed. Always read all the instructions on the back of the pack before using. There are two types of markings, a thicker tip and the regular markings linked above. Most showers are grouted for the smaller tip of the regular size.

The best way to hold the marker is to hold it at an angle to keep the paint flowing. PRO TIP: When you notice that you have to prime your marker more often when using it, take another one. It's much easier to use a marker that hasn't run out of paint.

Next, start tracing those lines! I did our shower section by section. I would start using parts of it in the morning to allow time to dry, then clean off the excess in the evening and do some touch ups. The whole shower took about 3 days. In this photo you can see where the clean straight lines are and where I went back to where the lines were thicker.

Before over cleaning, let's clean up the excess, by that I mean take your wet microfibre cloth, put it on your index finger and gently walk along each line. You will see the cement paste magically come off the tiles, leaving beautiful straight lines. One thing to note: depending on how good a job your submarine has done on the grout, you will see some imperfections depending on how straight they are to the grout lines and whether they line up with the thickness.
